God’s Light... It’s like nothing else.
It’s not like candle light, which you can light with a flame or snuff out on a whim. It’s more like the light of the sun, which always shines and is out of mankind's reach and control.
I feel awed. Just think… like the sun, we can't extinguish God's Light. W can hide from it… deny it… block it… reject it… run away from it… ignore it… turn our back on it… and even destroy a vessel that reflects it. But we will never be able to extinguish or escape it. It was there long before we came on the scene… and it will still be there long after we're gone from it.
It was there in the beginning… and will still be there when everything as we know it, ends.
Even the darkest darkness cannot overwhelm it; instead the darkness makes the Light shine brighter.
I find all this to be mind-blowing… yet comforting. No matter what, God’s Light and Life will always be there, shining bright in the midst of the deepest darkness. And this verse just barely touches on its wonder….
“…the people living in darkness have seen a great light.” Matthew 4:16
